Late night thoughts of economics principles
I’ll start by saying that I am not an economist, but I don’t think you need to be one to make some basic observations.
Though there is still allot of thinking I would like to do on this issue, there are several things that looks reasonable to me.
Basis assumptions:
- I’ll consider earth as a close system in relation to population, production and consumption.
- My idea of a good economic system is one that maximize the number of people that living good life, make it possible that no one will have to have bad life and doing that without destroying the planet.
• Good life: culturally satisfying, emotionally fulfilling and financially comfortable…
• Bad life: lack of the good life components and not by choice.
Example of some basic observations:
Just by looking at those to assumptions we can clearly see that, in general, permanent production growth is not a good way to measure economical success. Yet it seems like growth is one key measurements of economic vitality today.
Another question:
If we do get to a balanced population and production, reduce bureaucracy to a minimum, find good solutions for all those very hard and unpleasant jobs, what will we actually do? how will we make a living? How many people will take part in the actual production of physical things, food, equipment, energy…? How many will be in the education system, health system…? Looking at the labor markets today, it looks like if we do get to this ideal situation 60% of us will be unemployed, which will make this ideal situation not so ideal…
In general, one of the things that seem to be missing, as far as I can tell, from the economical discussions is foresight. We need to have some roughly idea on where we want to go, so that we will be able to tell in which direction we need to go to make some progress.
Another idea…
Measuring company success
When measuring company economical success, one need to find a way to incorporate, in a meaningful way, the economical progress of the employees.
A company job is not just to make the company strong…
To be continued another late night…
